Give us your name, where you’re from, and what you write.
My name is Darnell May. I’m from Springfield, Massachusetts, and I write dark fantasy, horror, and dystopian stories, the kind that feel cinematic, spiritual, and a little unsettling in the best way.
What was the moment you knew you were a storyteller?
When I realized my drawings weren’t enough. I could see whole worlds in my head, but I needed words to bring them to life, so I started writing scenes and short stories to match the images I kept creating.
If someone reads only one thing from you, what should it be and why?
The Experience. It shows the different sides to my writing and the avenues I took to create a whole universe of people, places, and things
How would you describe your books in 3 words?
Mythic. Thrilling. Transformative.
What’s one thing readers always misunderstand about your genre?
People think horror is only about monsters and jump scares. But real horror is emotion, grief, trauma, obsession, guilt made visible. The monsters are often just the mask.
